Get to know Joel, our new Executive Director!
In January, we introduced Joel Stockstill as our new Executive Director and we couldn’t be more excited! He is already bringing fresh vision to the organization and we can't wait to share more with you in the months to come, but first, we wanted to take some time to help you get to know him better!
Joel began his career as a student and young adult minister in Baton Rouge, where he grew America’s largest youth group at the time. After speaking across America for several years, he began serving as an apostolic leader and guide to many church planters and movements throughout the country. His wife, Amie, leads a ministry called Let’s Echo which helps women communicators find their voice and fulfill their destiny through inspirational content and practical coaching. They currently reside in sunny West Palm Beach, Florida!
1) What excites you most about working with the Surge Project?
The idea of planting Spirit-empowered churches with a Great Commission DNA around the world is something that keeps me up at night with excitement!
2) What is one thing your dad taught you about leadership that you want to carry into your new role?
The power of relationship. Everything in the Kingdom of God is advanced through relationship. Yes, we need resources, technology, and strategy but at the end of the day we will only go as far as the relationships we’ve built.
3) Do you have a favorite verse or book of the Bible?
Matt 9:35-38 has been a theme passage for me throughout my ministry. Starting with youth ministry in 2003, this important insight of “praying to the Lord of the harvest to burst forth laborers” has been a driving force in my life.
4) What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Reading is a huge passion for me as well as sports. I enjoy following sports, listening to sports shows, and attending sports games. I also enjoy hand lettering and anything to do with paper and pens.
5) What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
“The Advantage” by Patrick Lencioni and equally impacting “The Power of Positive Leadership” by Jon Gordon
6) Anything else you’d like to share with all the amazing Surge supporters around the world?
